I was brought on to art direct the film, initially pitching five distinct treatment directions before landing on the final look: What We’re Made Of. This direction highlights the timeless materials that make up the Eileen Fisher line through the use of layered imagery and powerful photographic compositions. Clean lines and modular holding shapes contain textured images of organic materials—wool, wood, cotton, cloth—while full-frame photography highlights key moments in the story. Smart juxtapositions of photography and video were used to create poetic visual moments throughout the film, while abstract shapes represented the systematic nature of the Eileen Fisher line. <img worked with the team at Sibling Rivalry on a series of three films for HPE’s Discovery event at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The content of each film was linked to HPE’s collaborations with BMW, GE Aerospace, and their sports partners. We aimed to blend the high-tech subject matter with human emotion, creating a powerful impact.Producing films for the massive Sphere screen is no small feat! Our challenge was to tell these stories using a combination of practically shot content, footage sourced by the client, and 3D rendering. 3D elements needed to be kept to a minimum due to the extreme scale of the final export. &nbsp; My role was three-pronged, acting as art director, designer, and animator while also pitching conceptual ideas for the practical shoot. I primarily worked on the BMW and Sports films, and each presented their own unique set of challenges. Below is a breakdown of my specific contributions to the films. This was a truly collaborative process—I feel honored to have worked with a team of incredibly talented artists who made this massive undertaking a joyful experience.&nbsp; ART DIRECTION, DESIGN, animation, compositing HPE + BMW For BMW, I worked in pre-production on storyboarding and pitching ideas for the practical shoot. I designed and animated the layered video approach, bringing an energy to the compositions and allowing us to cycle through footage quickly and elegantly. We collaborated closely with the production team and showrunner Shoshana Guy to develop the title cards, lower thirds, and archival treatments for the six-part series.&nbsp; Alphonse Swinehart and I teamed up to develop the graphic language; our explorations combined layered compositions with bold, historically relevant typefaces by Vocal Type. This blend of past and present serves as a fitting metaphor for the history of systemic racism that continues to plague our country to this day.&nbsp; Working with David Jouppi and Alex Winakor on animation, we landed on a subtle blend of drifts and piecey movement that lent itself well to the tactile nature of the designs. Archival, lower third, and title card animations were then built out into toolkits that gave the production team a wide range of creative flexibility. The design was inspired by accounts of children who had fled through the underground system, a flurry of 90s film imagery interspersed with the meticulous documentation of Faye. Since we had no access to footage or archival from the documentary, we had to get creative. Personal family photos of the team mixed with stock footage, paper textures, and scanned handwriting worked together to create a dark 90s aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from Black Panther posters of the 1960s and 70s, we landed on a richer color palette, sharper typography, and staccato motion language that infused new energy into the campaign. Having led the team in animation the first time around, I took the reins once again, leading both design and animation and providing direction for all toolkit updates, painstakingly executed by Alex Winakor.
